From the designer of Central Park comes Albany's premier spot for strolling, fishing and illegal dog-walking..
Overview
Designed in 1870 by Frederick Law Olmsted (famous for designing New York City's Central Park), this expansive green space boasts enough impressive plants to give it botanical-garden status.
The Experience
The lake at the park's western end attracts fishermen in the summer and ice skaters in the winter. As with any urban park, Washington Park should be enjoyed during the daytime and never alone. Surrounding the lake are woodlands where you can spot traces of old carriage roads. The eastern end of the park has a more Victorian feel and is the site of imposing monuments and many wonderful and unusual trees. Dogs are not officially allowed, but this rule seems to be ignored in the southeast corner of the park, known locally as the "dog lawn."

Washington Park Playhouse is great. The concerts during the summer are very professional.
