Homemade ice cream and huge sundaes have made this history rich spot famous..
In Short
In 1900, turn-of-the-century travelers paid 5 cents to the resident toll-keeper for each one-horse rig that passed by this site. More than 100 years later, people still stop here, now with their families in tow, to enjoy the homemade ice cream and sherbet that has made Tollgate famous since 1959. In addition to fudge brownie sundaes, root-beer floats and creamy milkshakes, Tollgate also offers a variety of appetizers, burgers, hot and cold sandwiches, seafood platters and steaks.

I Scream For this Ice Cream!.
This is the best "homemade" ice cream you will get in the Albany, NY area. Made in-house, this ice crem is fresh, full of inventive flavors (as well as old favorites,) and incredibly creamy. Personal favorites include the various fruit flavors - nice chunks of peaches, strawberries, etc. in it, and my favorite peanut butter! Flavors change daily - so stop in often. I recommend a scoop of banana and a scoop of peanut butter - YUMMY!

Great Cheap Eats.
Tollgate is a terrific value. They have a good selection of items on their menu & even offer Bunny Burgers for the kids! Their food, although not fancy, is tasty & consistent and they probably have the best french fries in town (not that there's a whole lot of competition in Selkirk). The restaurant has a great old-town kind of feel to it.
The owner reminds me of Dave Thomas, from Wendy's, a very nice guy who treats you like you'd stopped by his house for dinner. They always have good service and, of course, fabulous homemade ice cream. Oh, if only I could have one of those malteds now!
