Albany >Arts & Entertainment > Skyline Nightclub
Best place for live entertainment!. I travel extensively and my last trip to albany was great once I stepped into the Skyline! The staff was courteous and helpful even though it was a very busy night. After hearing the band on the first floor it was no surprise that the dance floor was packed. When I ventured to the second floor, I dicsovered a more relaxing environment with big screen tv's and wood fired pizza near the bar. After playing a round of darts and a few drinks I was curious about the next level. I'm not one for the nightclub scene but when I saw the great looking clientele making their way to the third floor I was compelled to follow. I was glad I did! I danced the night away with my friends! I was also pleased to see a variey of age groups throughout the bar. I would hightly recommend the Skyline for a great night out.
I don't think I will ever come back to Albany. I was in Albany for a week lomg conference staying at the Crowne Plaza hotel. I went to the Empire State Plaza, it was nothing to brag about, it lacked anything interesting. Albany was filled with homless people who live in the Government buildings. One night I took a stroll about five minutes from the hotel to Clinton Avenue. I have never been so scared in my life and I had been in third world countries. My collegue and I went to the bars on Pearl Street. We went to Jillians. I have been to Jillians before and was expecting the same type of clientelle. I felt like I walked into a frat party. Next we went Pearl. The clientele seemed like a bunch of white trash nobodies who walked around with an underserved sense of pride. Finally we went to Skyline. I felt like I was in a frat party again due to the amount of overly intoxicated people. The food was so, the barstaff was very rude. My friends and I tried to enjoy ourselves by playing darts on the second floor. The bar patrons were loud and obnoxious. Halfway through our game, a muscle bound neanderthal came over and tried to impress his girlfriend while picking a fight with us. He came up to us and said plain out, "Yo Yo son, this is my dartboard, I thinks (sic) you should move along". Of course we didn't and eventually he went away. Later my friends and I talked with some local Law Students. I was shocked that these girls were even in Law School since they were so intoxicated they couldn't even stand up. The one girl was bragging about how she had to lobby a State Senator in the morning but hey, partying comes first. Let me just say this, I lost any faith I had in New York State Government that night. I am sad by my experience in Albany. Due to its location and its abundance of government and academic instutions one would think it would have class and culture. I felt like it was a city full of people who forgot that they were out of college. I won't reccomend anyone I know to visit Albany anytime soon.
Fantastic atmosphere & live music!. The Skyline is the perfect place to hang out 5 days a week. The live entertainment is outstanding, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere is top notch. Ever since new ownership took over, the scene has improved 10 fold. Rumor has it, a deli is opening in the place of the lounge. If the deli food is as great as the rest of the join, they're bound for success! 2 thumbs up.
