Ingenuity and invention are the hallmarks of Dorato's Italian cuisine.. The Scene
Dorato's keeps the fine dining tradition alive in the otherwise unremarkable Star Plaza, an aging strip mall a few miles west of Albany. Inside, the high-spirited bar gives way to a quiet, accommodating dining room where enthusiastic servers keep the courses coming.

The Food
Although the emphasis is Italian, there's a continental breadth to Tom Dorato's menu. Tequila shrimp adds ingenuity to a common appetizer, though more traditional types may prefer a big bowl of traditional French onion soup. The Italian side of the menu boasts good seafood like lobster and spinach-stuffed salmon crowns, in addition to an outstanding veal osso buco.

Dish to Die For
Dorato's several beef dishes include a gorgeous steak au poivre.
