In Short – These caverns were discovered in 1842 and have been a favorite tourist attraction since 1929. Tours of the caverns last over an hour and include a boat ride on the underground Lake of Venus. A sprawling lodge offers a restaurant, motel, gift shop and snack bar. The drive to Howe Caverns is as scenic as the cave itself, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The Extras:
If you're looking for something beyond the ordinary, try the lantern tours, for ages 16 and up. They're offered Friday and Saturday nights only, and half the tour is by lantern light. It's $27 per person.
