The Scene – Old and new coexist gracefully here, where American-fusion cuisine is served in an old Shaker farmhouse. (Albany, don't forget, was once a hotbed of Shaker activity.) Beware of the porch seating, however, which can land you in service Siberia if the other rooms are busy. – – The Food – Owner Tom Wallace is not afraid of bold flavor combinations. Examples of his creativity include Vermont duck with cracked black pepper and a maple sherry glaze or pan-seared salmon filet with black sesame seeds and ginger-soy dipping sauce. Garlic lovers…

Switch and Bait?!

by rusprof

We just got back from dinner at Olde Shaker Inn. I am writing to warn you.

We were searching for a good restaurant that could satisfy three generations--down to our 4 year old. I've always wanted to try Olde Shaker and I noticed we had a coupon for buy one dinner get $10 off the second. Manager told us right away that we couldn't use it because my father in law was ordering a special. That didn't make any sense to me as my husband and I were ordering off of the "regular" menu. When I asked for an explaination, he said that no coupon could be used if one of the people at the table were ordering a "special". So, we choose this restaurant based on having the coupon and we weren't able to use it.

The three beers we ordered were very flat and smelled badlt. The waitress, who was very sweet, "checked" for us and sure enough the beer was bad--the keg was old. The manager gave us "comp" beers at the end of our meal which we didn't drink because we had two tired kids to get to bed and we couldn't hang around any longer.

Bottom line - don't waste your money on this place. Yeah the food was good, but the logic is seriously lacking and the feeling of being taken advantage of just doesn't sit well with me. Go to Cella Bistro--food is way better and the owners very respectful.

Olde Shaker Inn

by Nisky

I have been coming to Olde Shaker Inn since I moved here in 1990. I have always had delicious meals and great service. My only complaints are the ladies' room and the dirty carpeting. If they did a little cleaning up, this restaurant would be PERFECT.

surprisingly great restaurant

by andy upstate

whenever we come upstate to visit family we eat at one or two classic local places. last visit we waited too long to get a reservation and so stumbled on the Olde Shaker Inn, a restaurant I remember as a kid growing up in Schenectady. My expectations were low, how could a restaurant this old and dowdy contain within it the secret of great food.

big surprise.

we all loved our meals. I had a shrimp appetizer that blew me away. My vegetarian daughter loved her meal, and my 95 year old mother loved hers. 3 Generations all happy. How often does that happen?

  • Pros: excellent food
  • Cons: could use a facelift

Great Service, Home cooking at its best!

by Kitty Stone

Elegant atmosphere, just like being in the Shaker Museum but with great food. The wait staff was really friendly and the owner even greeted us a the door and took us to our table. Beats a chain restaurant any day. You can usually find coupons on the website that will save you on dinner. oldeshakerinn com
