First time there and we loved it!. Hubby and I had a 10 coupon for Teagan's so we figured we'd give it try. We were not dissapointed. Hubby ordered the prime rib, it came with a delicious fresh salad, twice baked potatoe and veggie. He loved every bit and bite of his meal. I order shrimp andn scallop alfredo which also came w/a salad - it was delicious and cooked to perfection. We found the prices to be reasonable too. We were too full to order dessert so I can't comment on that. We'll be going back again, want to try somehting different. A week before this hubby and I had gone to the Barnsider - that was a huge dissapointment - we both agreed the the food was much better and more reasonably priced at Teagan's. That's my 2 cents!`
Not as good as it was.
We've eaten at Teagan's many times. We went last night for my husband's birthday. We ordered drinks, he a bud light and me a wine. Waitress came back with wine and said no bud light in the house, so he got a bud. Anyway, we ordered our appetizers - very good french onion soup, but the clams casino were not that great. The order was for 8, my husband only got 6. He said they were dry and not consistent, although they tasted good. He thought maybe they'd been frozen?
Salads were good. My husband ordered the special Veal Saltimbucca and said it was horrible, nothing like any other he'd ever eaten. This will not deter us from eating there again, but I sure hope the owners see this review and improve on their food.
this place is the areas filthiest hole in the wall !!!. is this place for real? the food was horrible steak was over cooked and dry? shrimp was rubber.. took forever to be waited on? and then we got our apps before the drinks? all the food was cold except the shrimp cocktail go figure!! and the 2 tables next to us was complaining just as much .we arrived at about 6pm. we noticed how filthy the restaurant was!! looked like the floors haven't been cleaned in weeks? tables were falling apart we were afraid to lean on the table that it might tip over? and the restrooms was a nightmare!! I think the owner needs to close for a few days .. regroup them selves, clean the place up , hire some new skilled employees who know what they are doing !! I would never go back !! bottom line the place is 1 big craphole!!
There was real elegance that you just wouldn't have expected from outside appearances, and excellent food. Make reservations.. My husband, our college son, and I ate at Teagan's on Friday night. Our motel clerk recommend it for a steak place. Parking is either in the five-six spaces in front, the side, or by necessity behind the restaurant in a 50's era motel parking lot. We weren't the most comfortable parking in this poorly lighted lot in front of motel rooms. With no reservations, we waited about 15 minutes in a small entrance way between the bar and the separate, approximately 10 table dining room. The staff did the best they could to get us seated quickly, and kept us up to date on status. The couple ahead of us was offered a table in the bar, which they quickly took. The dining room had table cloths and napkins. There was real elegance that you just wouldn't have expected from outside appearances. Table service was relatively fast, considering the crowd. We quickly received water, and crackers and butter, our orders of wine and beer on tap, and a little later hot rolls and very fresh green salads or soup while we waited to order our entres. The menu had an excellent variety of shelfish, italian veal and chicken dishes, and beef including steak a poive and prime rib. The prices ranged from around $12-$24. My son ordered chicken parmesan, my husband ordered baked stuffed pork chops, and I ordered steak a poive. It took about 30 minutes for the orders to arrive, but again every table was full. The chicken parmesan looked big enough to be an entire chicken, there were two huge pork chops, and the strip steak was ok. I had ordered the steak cooked "medium" and it was "well done"-the only disappointment with the meal, but which I put up to the crowd for college parent's day. All were served with beautiful sauted vegetables-whole green beans, squash fingers, etc. and baked or baked stuffed potato or pasta. It was a feast, with leftovers! The staff gave us a check quickly at our request, since we had another appointment. There is an early bird menu. We would go again.
Would not return, over crowded, under staffed, over priced, food served luke warm. This was my review for 5/13/2007. We waited 25 minutes between salad and maim meal. Food served luke ward. Had to wait 20 minutes for bill. Not the way to run a business.
Big Disappointment on my Return to this Restaurant.
I gave a great review last time I was there, but have to say that this visit was the absolute worst. I don't know if the restaurant is under new ownership or what, but I will not go back there again. I arrived on a Friday night to a crowded bar and a pretty busy restaurant. The wait for food was terrible 1 1/2 hours for our meal. Salad, steak and check. The food was so-so and the service was worse. You couldn't find our waitress if you wanted to. We decided to have a few drinks in the bar after dinner and this was the biggest mistake. By the time we left there were only a couple of patrons left. There was one couple that did nothing but fight at the bar. The language and the fighting were ridiculous. They should have been thrown out of there. You could plainly see that the people still there were very uncomfortable. I did hear someone say this couple fights all the time that it was no big deal. Wrong, it was a big deal, if I wanted to watch a fight I would turn on my TV. We left the bar and went out to our car. I must say I was very unimpressed with the lighting in the parking lot, we had to park near the back and it was a little nerve wracking walking back to our car. We sat in our car and were discussing were to go, when the obnoxious couple started fighting in the parking lot. A glass was thrown and the man peeled out leaving his other half behind. We sat there for a few more minutes not knowing if the car was going to come flying back into the parking lot as we left and sure enough it did. I must say, if the restaurant is under new management the owner better get his/her staff shaped up or they will lose more customers. If it's not under new ownership, I hope this was just an off night, because I truly did enjoy my first visit.
One other thing, if they are going to allow fights in the bar and nasty language being hurled around while people are dining I can guarantee a loss of business.
Hidden Five Star talent. While on a job in the Albany area, I had the opportunity to diine at Teagan's. The food was absloutely fantastic. My work travels take me all over the country and give me the opportunity to sample cuisine at many of the nation's hot spots for dining. Rensselaer, NY has reason to be proud and full. From New Orleans to Chicago, it is easy to say that Teagan's has the best all around menu options, ambiance, service and food quality I have tasted and experienced. From the Veal Merlot to Pan Seared Trout, you can not go wrong. I will go out of my way to return to Teagan's. Great job to Al and the staff at Teagan's.
Fantastic. Teagans is owned by a man named Al who can cook like you wouldn't believe. It is a tiny little restaurant with a lounge or a dining area whatever you choose. The steaks are the best I have ever had. I live in West Palm Beach now and every time I get to visit up in Albany area I make sure I stop in. They never forget a face either. His steaks are made to perfection and the menu has quite a bit more than just steaks. Every thing there has a flavor of its own. I vote this number one for the U.S.!!!!!
