Villa Valenti Restaurant and Sauce Co.

More than three generations of pleasing your palate

  • Catering Available
  • Extensive Wine List
  • Everything Homemade

We are third generation restaurateurs on the paternal side. The original Volcano restaurant, a legendary landmark in Troy, was our grandfather's. Our mother (who was one of 22 children) is still an instrumental part of the kitchen, where pasta making is a daily routine. Even the manicotti, lasagna and ravioli are done from scratch--an almost unheard of practice today. Knowledge that cannot be taught, only lived, is our culinary tradition.

The pride we take in what we do, in addition to our history, drives us to give you the best product we can. Compromising quality is not part of our makeup. Cost of an ingredient never stopped us from using it. Our goal is to serve you the best way we know how, combined with the stubborn desire to stick to old-fashioned techniques. We graciously share this with you because you deserve it.

I must say I head that Villa does have quite large portions and they sure do. I did take a lot home. I also heard that it is a great value and that I don't quite agree with. Value to me is kid of like a math problem... Quality x quantity / price = value. Quantity is very large as I said but the price while not terribly expensive is not cheap considering that you are just getting what is more or less plain old standard italian cuisine. Villa was okay. Didn't wow me.

Pros: Large portions

Cons: The salad bar is kind of nasty. Food is somewhat disappointing.

Seriously. I came after reading these recommendations. Are you people nuts? Where do you come from? I'm from Rochester, certainly not the pinnacle of culture, and there are far better restaurants there and I've had far better here as well. V&R and Lombardo's, just to name two, are in a totally different league from this place! Someone said something about the supposedly "large" wine list? It was two pages! TWO! There are places around here that have wine lists that are over 30 pages! The service was average, the food was average, and it's just standard italian fare. You can get far better food for the price in most cities, and I'm sure you can here too (sorry, but I haven't been in the area that long so I can't name more names but I'm certain they are out there). Yeah, if all you do is eat TV dinners while you watch american idol, then this is probably real good food to you. Anyone who knows food will know better. Save the gas. Stay in Albany. Go somewhere else. It just isn't worth it.
