Awesome comic book shop! I drive over an hour to get there. Huge selection of new and back issue comics. Great service!
Holy huge selection, Batman!.
That?s what I thought to myself the first time I walked into Earthworld Comics, and I?ll bet a lot of other first-time shoppers will think the same thing. Earthworld is probably the biggest comic shop in the Capital District in terms of physical size and variety of merchandise. They don?t specialize in any particular niche product, but just about anything you?re looking for they probably have: new comics; back issues; trades and graphic novels; toys; independent comics; t-shirts; posters; manga; discount bins; and even some DVDs too.
NEW COMICS: Like any comic shop worth their salt, Earthworld carries a variety of new issues from all the major publishers as well as a few indies. However, I find they?re a little quicker to file away new issues into the back issue bins than most stores (but at least the price only goes up a quarter and you get a bag and board).
BACK ISSUES: New School comic book geeks will most likely be able to find any Modern Age back issue they?re looking for. Their selection is definitely larger than the average store and their prices seem below average across the board. They also have a bunch of key back issues from the Bronze and Silver Age on the walls and behind the counter, all of which are reasonably priced.
DISCOUNT:The only thing about Earthworld that I?m not crazy about is their discount for subscribers. Most stores offer their subscribers a flat rate of 10 or 20 percent off pretty much everything in the store, but Earthworld?s policy is a bit finicky. Their discount comes out to be more-or-less 10% off new issues but not towards other off-the-shelf items or back issues. Pre-ordered purchases (TPBs, GNs, toys or anything else in Previews ) over $15 are discounted 15% for subscribers, which is a good deal. Higher priced items are discounted depending on cost (call for details).
