Tips for Bombers Burrito Bar

July 06, 2006

Twenty-somethings frequent this funky storefront restaurant to load up on cheap, fresh eats and to conquer Ms. Pac-Man.. In Short
College kids in Birkenstocks mill around as the staff prepares food for a never-ending line of customers. While they wait, patrons lounge in a beat-up barber chair, survey the chalkboard menus or chase the ghosts in Ms. Pac-Man. Hefty tacos start under $2, so it's possible to eat like royalty for under five bucks. Catering to the vegan crowd as well as meat eaters, Bombers offers up barbecued tofu, tofu fries and vegetarian chili.

Strongbow..... Not only is their food good, but they have Strongbow on tap... Something that is hard to get around this area...

Bombers Overhyped, Drinks Overpriced. Food is decent and not that expensive (not as cheap as everyone raves about). Portions are not impressive for the price, either.

Service is non-existant, the downstairs (non-bar area) took quite a while to be served. Upstairs (the bar area) almost necessitated sending a search team to locate the food ordered about an hour ago. Subsequently, I ate a cold burrito and dried up fries. Bumbers.

HOWEVER, don't order anything from the bar but a special. The menus missing prices on most drinks (oddly enough) and you may need an oral surgeon to reconnect your jaw when the bill comes and you and a few of your friends owe a Burrito Bar around $90 for three quesedillas, two orders of fries, and 7 drinks between you. Our own fault, but about $9.00 for a drink is a bit out of line (especially when it's 70% ice).

Don't believe the hype.

Bombers. Everyone's only talking about Bomber's burritos (which are awesome), but what about the fact that they have 20 beers on tap in a cool lounge/bar atmosphere with .25 cent wings on Monday nights.....something to think about.

Kicks Taco Bell's Butt!. Burritos: humongous and tasty!

Sweet Potato Fries: Out of this world!

Rest of Menu: Excellent selection of wraps, fillings and sides.

Service and food prep: fast-food (but friendly and courteous)

Ambiance: Eclectic/Funky

Heavan. Not much to say. Bombers is the best place in Albany to get food. The food is great and the atmosphere comfortingly original and classic. How do you not love a place with the Mrs. Pac-Man game?
