WORST EVER!

by screwem

This gym is absolutely horrendous. The owners, Tony and Rosa, pull you in and make you think that they really care. Don't be fooled--these people are only in it for the money and they will lie, cheat and steal at every opportunity. They have zero business sense and even put a collection bucket out for member contributions to get new equipment! Lol--I thought that was what our membership fees are for. Oh, and watch your monthly charges because they'll try to slip stuff in there! Bottom line--buy your own equipment or go to the Y. This place is nothing but a money pit. I'm finally out of my contract and I'll never go back.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Poor customer service, just want money, machines always brok

One of the biggest fitness franchises caters to more than just bodybuilders.

by Contributor

The Scene
The company logo is a muscle-bound gorilla deadlifting a heavily loaded barbell, but World Gym's focus goes beyond just weights to include a number of fitness options. Joe Gold's first Southern California muscle mecca--the second being the eponymous Gold's--has spawned hundreds of neighborhood gyms everywhere, from Mentor, Ohio, to Taichung, Taiwan. Design and amenities vary from franchise to franchise to reflect the owner and the community as much as, if not more than, the original location.

The Workout
All World Gym fitness centers are required to be at least 9,500 square feet. That means ample room for free weights, medicine balls, treadmills and sundry machines; classes in Spinning, yoga and the like fill out the group-oriented fare.

Does Not Care About Members Only About Money

by johnsaratogasprings

My friend and I were excited about joining a new gym together. She went into World's Gym for the first time after we signed up while I was at work and had a horrible experience. She rang me in a fury exclaiming a 580lb gorilla with remedial communication skills had just assaulted her faith in our new workout facility. My friend requested a brief tutorial on the safe operation of their exercise machines. The person working the front desk at World Gym, in front of the owner, replied, Only yearly memberships receive instruction on how to use our facilities.

Now, not only does the owner at world Gym offer excellent customer service but he freely invites lawyers of all shapes and sizes to walk right in, have a negligence field day when a non-yearly member gets injured for their failed lack of ANY instruction when requested by their client, but lawyers also will receive complimentary tanning and Tae Bo lessons.

Avoid at all cost, I've been a member at gyms in California all the way to Florida and for $45/mo. I'd rather workout at the Y or at home than deal with these thugs.
